“After I was injured, I couldn’t do simple things like sit in a chair. For years, I would just fall over and not sit up. These guys have made my life easier with a simple solution,” Zuriel Aliz told President of Israel Reuven (Ruvi) Rivlin today, Monday 30 November / 14 Kislev. A special support has been developed to help Zuriel sit independently without falling, and was on display at an event today at Beit HaNasi with representatives of Restart, which helps injured IDF veterans get their lives back on track.

The president was also shown winning products from Restart’s flagship program Makers for Heroes, as part of which 300 volunteers from various organizations have built individually adapted devices to help IDF veterans. One example is Hilal Bisan for whom a special orthopedic sole has been developed that allows him to walk with one crutch rather than two. CEO of Restart Niv Efron, chairperson Shoshi Roshnivsky and board member Tami Zuaretz, wife of Col. (res.) Pinchas ‘Pinky’ Zuaretz ז"ל also participated in the event.

“We must pay a heavy price for our life in our country and land, and you know that from up close. When the body pays the price, the spirit suffers just as much. The challenge is not just physical, it is also mental and it is on a daily basis. Every day is a new challenge, and a new victory for rehabilitation,” said the president, thanking the organization for its dedication to its mission. “You fulfil our moral obligation as a society, to take care of those who were injured defending us. Kol hakavod to you!”

Niv Efron, CEO of Restart: “This is the third time that I am leading this wonderful event, after my first time when I was a participant as a soldier, for whom a team built me a solution that allows me to exercise despite a serious arm injury. I was injured in Gaza, in Operation Defensive Shield, during service as a squad leader in Maglan when I was shot in the chest and arm. A few days after the injury, my squad went into the UN infirmary that blew up. Because of the explosion, three of my soldiers were killed and the rest injured. After two years of tough physical and mental rehab, I came around to the idea that there are things that I will never be able to do again. My wonderful team at Makers for Heroes persuaded me that the sky's the limit and built a device that allows me to get back to exercising as I did before I was injured. Since then, I joined Restart and now lead this organization that helps hundreds of IDF injured veterans.”
