A new measure will send $10 million to help Maryland farmers hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic.

yland Gov. Larry Hogan spent Monday on the Eastern Shore for a series of stops and tours. Highlights included meeting frontline workers, Main Street retail owners and farmers.

"It has been a very difficult time for our agriculture community, and yet, our hard-working and selfless Maryland farmers have continued working hard every single day through this entire crisis in order to keep our food supply chain operational and functioning with minimal interruptions," Hogan said.

At his third stop on the daylong tour, Hogan sat down with about 20 farmers in a closed barn-door meeting.

"This is the most important stop, so far, to talk about how we're going to provide some help for our farmers on the shore, particularly our poultry farmers and our grain famers," Hogan said.

After the roundtable, the governor announced an additional $10 million in COVID-19 relief for Maryland farmers in the form of direct payments starting now. Read more at WBALTV
