A flash flood watch is in effect Thursday for most of Maryland as storms saturate the region.

The flash flood watch is in effect from 7 a.m. to midnight and means conditions may lead to flash flooding, or a rapid rise in water level. Authorities ask people to be extra careful driving at night.

Slow-moving thunderstorms may bring heavy rain to the region Thursday, officials say, which could prompt flash flooding around roads and buildings.

"It wouldn't take much to cause flooding, given heavy rainfall across much of the area both yesterday and again this morning," the National Weather Service said in a forecast discussion.
