Baltimore, MD - July 15, 2016 - The application period for Maryland's new state-funded tuition scholarship program ended this past Monday. The BOOST (Broadening Options and Opportunities for Students Today) program will provide $5 million in tuition scholarships to low-income students attending nonpublic schools beginning in the fall. Agudath Israel of Maryland, in conjunction with the Jewish day schools across the state, conducted a community-wide campaign to encourage and assist eligible families in completing the online application.
On Sunday night July 10th, Agudath Israel co-hosted a "BOOST Open House" with Bais Yaakov of Baltimore to ensure that local households had every chance possible to apply for a scholarship. Many families took advantage of Bais Yaakov's computer lab to complete the online application with the the help of staff members who provided additional assistance in completing the tedious applications. The state-appointed advisory board is now working diligently to sort through a number of different program criteria in order to make the appropriate grant recommendations ahead of the start of the 2016-2017 school year.
