New York - About 10 people lifted a vehicle off a livery cab that struck and pinned a pedestrian in Manhattan — but the Samaritans’ efforts were futile.

The New York Post (http://nyp.st/1OIi2fI ) says the 77-year-old victim was pronounced dead at a hospital on Monday.

She was struck around 8:30 a.m. at Madison Avenue and East 36th Street.
