Baltimore, MD – Jan. 27, 2016 - While it is true that the citizens of Baltimore City have just experienced a historic snow blizzard, they have also experienced a historic lack of service and common sense. As we struggle to get our lives’ and businesses’ back to normal, residents of other Maryland counties have been able to get back to their normal routines. The 5th District’s streets are only partially passable and some streets remain completely buried in snow. Even major streets, like Greenspring Avenue are only partially plowed! Where is the oversight and accountability?

To add insult to injury, the City of Baltimore has announced that they intend to fine people for not shoveling their walks! Who is going to fine the City for all of the streets that remain impassable? At this juncture those homes that have not had their sidewalks shoveled are in most cases where the homeowners either cannot physically shovel their snow or do not have the resources to get someone to do it for them. Are we going to allow our most vulnerable citizens to be fined for a situation not of their making?

Being as outraged as the rest of the residents of the 5th District by the City’s plan to start fining non-compliant home owners, Isaac “Yitzy" Schleifer, candidate for the 5th District City Council Seat, has decided to fight back. Yitzy is offering to stand in the snow covered shoes of the 5th District constituents. Yitzy has a meaningful message for our beleaguered community members, “I am so frustrated by the lack of progress, that I have decided to make the following offer, If you are elderly or handicapped, reside on an unplowed street in the 5th District, and you receive a fine from the City of Baltimore for failure to shovel your snow, I will either obtain legal representation for you to fight the fine, or pay the fine on your behalf. This is unacceptable, we can do better!” Additionally, for those receiving fines, Yitzy will come out with his campaign volunteers to shovel for you.
