Baltimore, MD - Jan. 21, 2016 - As you know by now, a major winter storm is headed towards our area - and we are right in the bulls eye. At this time, it looks like we will be getting more than 24 inches of snow from Friday afternoon to early Sunday morning. Along with the heavy snow, very high winds may cause power outages.

Now is the time to prepare for this severe weather event.

We would like to provide the following tips to help keep you and your neighbors safe.

1. Ensure that you have at least 3 days of non-Perishable food items, milk and water on hand.

2. In the event of a power outage, DO NOT use a generator inside your home, as this can cause carbon monoxide.

3. Check on elderly and infirmed neighbors before, during and after the storm to ensure they are well prepared and safe.

4. If you are on medication or oxygen, ensure you have enough to make it through an expended stay at home.

5. Even after the storm is over, remain off the roadway to allow emergency vehicles and road crews to have a clear roadway in which to operate and provide faster recovery from the storm.

The NWCP is in contact with local emergency response organizations, local government officials and decision makers, and will pass along any urgent notifications or status updates as it affects our community.
