Baltimore, MD - Aug. 28, 2025  The Park Heights community celebrated a major milestone on Wednesday with the groundbreaking of a new Enoch Pratt Library branch—the first new library constructed in Baltimore City in over 18 years. This long-awaited project restores library access to a neighborhood that has gone without one since 1991.

Baltimore City Councilman Yitzy Schleifer hailed the project as “a true milestone for Northwest Baltimore,” crediting its success to a combination of public investment and over $6 million in private funding.

Senator Dalya Attar, who represents the district in the Maryland State Senate, spoke passionately about the importance of the new library for local residents.

“Today is a historic day for the Park Heights community. For more than 20 years, our neighborhood has been without a library—a place that inspires learning, growth, and opportunity,” said Attar. “I was just 11 years old when the Park Heights library closed its doors, and today at 34, I am proud to have delivered on my promise to bring it back. From the moment I was elected, I made it a top priority to secure the resources and partnerships necessary to make this possible. This library is more than just a building—it represents hope, opportunity, and a brighter future for our families and children.

The new library is part of a larger redevelopment effort that includes enhancements to the nearby CC Jackson Park. The facility is expected to open its doors to the public in September 2027.
