Israel, June 19, 2025 – A major escalation unfolded early Thursday morning as Iran launched its largest missile barrage in 48 hours, firing between 20 and 30 ballistic missiles toward southern and central Israel. At least seven impact sites have been confirmed, including three in Gush Dan and one direct strike on Soroka Medical Center in Be’er Sheva.

The strike on Soroka caused severe damage to the hospital’s surgical inpatient building, which had been partially evacuated. The hospital director stated that only life-saving cases are now being treated, and emergency crews are continuing to assess structural damage. The public was asked to avoid coming to the hospital unless absolutely necessary.

One impact site in Ramat Gan resulted in damage to at least 20 buildings, and multiple casualties were reported across the region. In Holon, two people were seriously injured, one moderately, and four sustained light injuries. Some structures in that area are now at risk of collapse.

Emergency medical personnel across the country treated and evacuated the injured, with at least 65 casualties reported so far, including:

6 in serious condition (some transferred to Sheba and Wolfson hospitals),

2 in moderate condition, and

dozens with light injuries, many from shrapnel or while running to shelter.

One seriously injured woman, approximately 60 years old, was treated at the scene after suffering shrapnel wounds and was evacuated in serious but stable condition. Several others were rescued from damaged buildings, parking areas, and elevators by emergency crews in coordination with fire and rescue teams.

Psychological trauma teams were also dispatched to assist those experiencing emotional distress, particularly in the hardest-hit areas.

Despite earlier reports, no dangerous chemical leaks were detected at or near the hospital. Officials confirmed that no one remains unaccounted for at this time.

Iranian media claimed the hospital strike was unintentional, saying the target was a military installation “near Soroka.” Israeli officials, however, condemned the incident as a deliberate strike on a civilian medical facility.

President Isaac Herzog issued a powerful statement in response, praising the dedication of Soroka’s staff—Jews and Arabs alike—and emphasizing the hospital's critical role in treating all residents of the Negev, including Palestinians. “In moments like these, we are reminded of what’s truly at stake and the values we are defending,” he said.

Deputy Foreign Minister Sharren Haskel also weighed in: “Iran just hit Soroka Hospital with a ballistic missile… deliberate, criminal, civilian target. The world must speak out.”
