Jerusalem, Israel - March 6, 2025 - In a significant shift for Israel’s electricity market, recent deregulation has ended Chevrat Chashmal’s long-standing monopoly, allowing multiple companies to offer electric service. Consumers now have the opportunity to switch providers and receive substantial discounts, though Chevrat Chashmal continues to manage the power infrastructure itself.
However, Chaim V’Chessed has received numerous reports from non-citizen residents experiencing difficulties in switching providers. It has frequently been challenging for individuals without an Israeli ID number to open accounts with the new providers, leaving this segment of the population unable to benefit from the deregulated market.
In response, Chaim V’Chessed officials engaged in discussions with the Igud Batei Knesset and representatives of Bezek, one of the new electricity providers. As a result, an arrangement has been reached: Bezek will now streamline registration for non-citizens. These residents will be able to obtain discounted electric service through Bezek, using a passport number, instead of an Israeli identity number.
Additionally, in collaboration with Chaim V’Chessed, an English-language application form has been created to facilitate the sign-up process. Interested consumers can access the form here. Naturally, Israeli citizens who prefer an English-language application may use this link, as well.
This development marks a breakthrough for Israel’s non-citizen residents, ensuring that they too can benefit from the new competitive electricity market.
