Jerusalem, Israel - Sept. 3, 2024 - Chodesh Elul Tov!

After many years at a recent networking event, I met up with a long-time friend who is now a published author. As we begin Elul and prepare for 5785, after the tumultuous 5784, now is a good time to share her passion and work.

"It's about more than just books. I'm on a mission to inspire children worldwide with a love for Israel and to educate them about our Jewish homeland," explained Sara-Ester Varnai. She has originated and designed a book series, Kids Discover Israel, to inspire children, and to empower them to stand strong and to be proud of being Jewish.

Each volume in the series of historical novels explores a different ancient, archaeological site in a fun and unique way. The original storylines aim to captivate young readers, inspire their love for Israel, bolster their self-confidence as Jews, and grow their love for Israel.

Sara-Ester and her husband who live in Beitar Illit, were recently on a three-month road trip visiting children and grandchildren in Canada and the United States. She used the opportunity to speak to schoolchildren, promoting Israel via her books. The Jewish schools ranged from Vancouver, British Columbia, to California, Houston, TX, and Kingston, PA. She presented nineteen Author Talks to students in grades 1-8.

They were eager to hear positive words about Israel. They too had been negatively impacted by October 7 and the ensuing rise of anti-Zionism and antisemitism throughout the world. "They are filled with fear and conflicting emotions, especially regarding Israel. My goal was to reignite their love and excitement for our homeland. During my presentations, I focused on uplifting, humorous experiences and the miracles that abound, especially now with a war. Yes, even in the middle of a war there is no place in the world like Israel," she shared with BJL.

One message to some of the older classes was: "The world is so clearly being divided into good and evil - and Hashem is on the side of Israel, the good side - and we will win this war."

A Bubby proudly on a mission reaching out to young children to grow a love for Israel. Trying to fight the darkness, one page at a time she has published her latest book "At Masada."
