Baltimore, MD - July 16, 2024  - Less than 72 hours after a gunman nearly assassinated former President Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania, the Republican National Convention commenced in Milwaukee. Trump was officially nominated as the GOP's presidential candidate. Security concerns remain unresolved, including the shooter's motive and proximity to Trump. Enhanced security measures are now in place for Trump, his new running mate Senator JD Vance, and Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. In response to a request from Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman, law enforcement agencies nationwide have been called to assist with security at the RNC. Carroll County Sheriff's Office and Prince George's County Police Department in Maryland have deployed 15 deputies and 20 officers respectively. The RNC will continue through July 18, with Trump scheduled to speak on the final day.
