Heavy smoke billowed Wednesday afternoon from a large fire at a warehouse in Baltimore.

SkyTeam 11, Baltimore’s only news helicopter, showed scrap metal on fire at a recycling plant at Bayard and Hamburg streets, near the stadiums.

Baltimore City fire spokesman Kevin Cartwright told 11 News that firefighters were called around 1:30 p.m. and confined the fire to the area. Crews fought the fire from the exterior, after a large pile of scrap metal appeared to have penetrated a neighboring warehouse.

Cartwright told 11 News that welding operations near a scrap metal pile may have ignited the fire. An investigation continues.... Read More: WBAL
