Baltimore, MD - Mar. 14, 2024  - The annual Yeshiva Gedolah Ohr Hatorah Shabbos Chizuk and Weekend Retreat was held this past Shabbos, Parshas Vayakhel, at Camp Lemala in Falls, Pa. Located in the picturesque mountains of northern Pennsylvania, this sprawling campus became home to a much-anticipated event for every talmid. Close to one hundred and seventy-five people; talmidim, Hanhalah, Kollel Yungerleit and their families came together to be inspired, invigorated and reenergized in midst of winter.

And inspired, invigorated and reenergized they were. The stirring tefillos and zemiros, coupled with the variety of divrei Torah and drashos, moved each person in his own way. More than once, the heartfelt niggunim spawned spontaneous dancing among the participants.  The heartfelt singing brought out feelings of dveikus and created an atmosphere of unparalleled achdus.

A full gamut of shiurim and shmuezzen filled all with inspiration. It began with a shiur from R’ Moshe Herzog after Kabbolas Shabbos, drawing inspiration from each letter of the Aleph-Bais and connecting them to the Shabbos Chizuk.

After the Friday night seuda, a round table discussion about “When Rebbe was Young” helped talmidim connect to their Rebbeim in ways that felt personal for each participant.

A Shabbos morning drasha from Rabbi Dovid Jaffee helped everyone appreciate the gadlus of doing mitzvos and learning Torah without personal cheshbonos. After Mincha, concurrent “breakout room” drashos by Rabbi Shmuel Motzen, R’ Shaul Elchonon Sofer and R’ Daniel Bortz left all with elevated hashkafos.

A powerful Shalosh Seudos shmuezz from Rabbi BenZion Lapidus completed the shiurim. Divrei Brocha and divrei Torah were delivered during the Seudos by the Roshei Yeshiva, Rabbi Dovid Hoffman and Rabbi Moshe Aharon Rosenbaum, as well as by Kollel Yungerleit and talmidim.

For many, the best was yet to come! On Motzoei Shabbos, an all new program was designed. After dancing to musical accompaniment, and a delectable melave Malka, special guest speaker R’ Avraham Goldstein from Scranton arrived. R’ Goldstein kept the crowd spellbound as he described not only his incredible and uplifting life story, but also lessons and viewpoints of Yiddishkeit through the eyes of a Ger Tzedek. Rabbi Goldstein then shifted to various aspects of Yiddishe music and used his musical talents to demonstrate.

Each person left the weekend uplifted and motivated to make the most of the remainder of this winter zman, and with a renewed and deeper connection to their Rebbeim, each other and to their personal Avodah.
