Baltimore, MD - Jan. 13, 2024 - City and state officials have announced investments to enhance the efficiency and speed of travel through Baltimore's Harbor Tunnel (Route 895), according to WMAR2News. These improvements primarily target traffic flow to and from the Port of Baltimore. The most significant change involves the removal of toll booths in favor of an overhead tolling system, which is expected to alleviate severe traffic congestion and long delays. The project, supported by $80 million in federal funding and $40 million in state funding, is currently in the design phase and is projected to commence construction in 2026. Additionally, this initiative is set to generate over 300 jobs for the Baltimore area.
