On the way to treat the injured, jeeps of terrorists passed in front of us, I was hit by a barrage in the back" | A MDA EMT who was seriously injured on the first day of the war relives the moments of the encounter with Hamas terrorists on the way to treat the wounded in Nir Am

At 6:30 in the morning on Saturday, MDA EMT Hananel Jerafi woke up to the sound of the Red Alert sirens. About fifteen minutes later, he was called to treat the wounded whose lives were in danger in Nir Am.

"As soon as I received the call, I joined my neighbor Eliasaf Bar Haim, he is also a MDA EMT and we set off in an MDA ambulance" says Hananel, and continues, "We got right to the entrance of Nir Am when suddenly 2 jeeps with armed Hamas terrorists passed in front of us. We sped up and tried to run away but they started shooting at us in bursts. I was badly hit in the back by the terrorists' gunfire, I managed to drive another few hundred meters and shouted to Eliasaf that I was hit. Eliasaf replaced me in driving to the hospital and MDA paramedic Aviv Shneior treated me and stabilized my injuries. I was evacuated to Barzilai Hospital in serious condition with two gunshot wounds to the back."
