Jerusalem Israel - Apr. 26, 2023 - For 60 years, the International Bible Youth Quiz, Chidon Tanach, has been a feature on Yom Haatzmaut, Israel Independence Day, one of the official ceremonies. This year Israel is celebrating 75 years and the program was broadcast live by the Government Press Office.
Jewish teens from all over the world gathered in Jerusalem, Israel on Wednesday morning at the Jerusalem Theater. The young people also, spend two weeks traveling and sightseeing in Israel and are quizzed on their knowledge of Tanach for the final rounds.
The suspense and drama continued as the finalist were down to the final two Israeli girls. Emuna Cohen from the northern Negev Bnei Netzarim was the winner, with close runner-up Neta Lax who attends school in Neveh Tzuf. Both had enthusiastic supporters in the audience.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asked questions, as did Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion, both were accompanied by their wives.
Education Minister Yoav Kisch and Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana participated in the event.
Ohana was on the panel of judges, which included World Zionist Organization Chairman Yaakov Hagoel, and Jewish Agency Chairman Doron Almog.
Winners of the quiz are awarded scholarship money and were presented a special Chumash by the Prime Minister and Education Minister.
Friends and family of the contestants were in the theater audience. Again this year, Rabbi and Rita Shloush attended with members of their family, including Rabbi Gideon Shloush who also made aliyah.
