Washington, D.C. - March 20, 2025 - The US has asked Israel not to strike Houthi targets in Yemen, a source told the Jerusalem Post.
"Leave it to us" was the US request.
Israeli officials are holding discussions on whether to respond to the recent missiles launched from Yemen, but the assumption is that, at this point, Israel will accept the US request.
Two missiles were sent from Yemen to Israel on Thursday, marking the first time in two months the Houthis had targeted the Tel Aviv and Jerusalem areas. Both, however, were intercepted by Israel's air defense systems, and did not land in Israeli territory.
Earlier in the day, the US struck Houthi targets in Yemen's port city of Hodeidah.
Sources told Ynet that the US requested that Israel...

Washington, D.C. - March 20, 2025 - President Donald Trump signed an executive order Thursday to scale down the Department of Education — a move that is expected to spur lawsuits challenging the directive and will likely require Congressional approval.
Trump frequently has discussed plans to nix the Department of Education dating back to the campaign trail, and said in September 2024 that he wanted to cut down on the federal government’s influence over education to "stop the abuse of your taxpayer dollars to indoctrinate America’s youth."
"Everybody knows it's right, and we have to get our children educated," Trump said Thursday. "We're not doing well with the world of education in this country, and we haven't for a l...
Baltimore, MD - March 20, 2025 - Federal authorities said the Maryland Transportation Authority failed to conduct an assessment of the Francis Scott Key Bridge that could have warned of its vulnerability from a vessel collision, the National Transportation Safety Board announced Thursday afternoon.
National Transportation Safety Board Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy provided an update Thursday afternoon to the investigation of the Key Bridge collapse.
Homendy said the MDTA did not run the vulnerability assessment calculation on the Key Bridge, and as of October 2024, still hasn't done so for the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.
Homendy said had the assessment been completed, "the MDTA would've known the risk and could've taken action to prevent the collapse."
Homendy said the NTSB had...

Lawmakers worked throughout the first half of the legislative session to close the gap by considering drastic cuts to core services and imposing new taxes. The governor said the framework relies on spending cuts over tax increases to close the deficit.
"This is the largest amount cuts from a Maryland state bud...

The nation is gathered to be charged with pitching in all together their varied talents in fashioning the numerous items that were necessary for the משכן — Tabernacle.
Prior to this directive, the Torah reiterates what had been previously instructed, the observance of Shabbos. The positioning of it here again is to emphasize that even for the building of a Sanctuary for G-d, the refraining from work activity on Shabbos supersedes that goal.
Earlier we are ordered that 'for six days תַּֽעֲבֹד֘ — shall you work… but the seventh day is Shabbos to G-d; you shall not do any work…' (שמות כ י)
Similarly, we are now told, 'On six days, תֵּֽעָשֶׂ֣ה — work may be done, but the seventh day shall be holy for you&hel...
Dear Readers,In the world of Jewish music, few artists capture the essence of a story quite like Joey Newcomb. His newest album features a song with a particularly meaningful backstory, one that many Baltimoreans will immediately connect with. Heiligeh Rabbi Lefkowitz was inspired by a recent trip to Morocco, where Joey encountered a Yid who never put his gemara down.
While the group visited kevarim and historical sites, singing and dancing along the way, one man stood to the side, fully immersed in learning. It didn’t matter where they were- on the bus, in a shul, or at a centuries-old Jewish landmark- his eyes never left the gemara in his hands. Watching him, Joey couldn’t help but wonder: Why was he even on this trip? The only sights he seemed to take in were the words ...

The festive atmosphere brought smiles to the children’s faces as they absorbed the spirit of Purim through these memorable experiences. The shul was equally filled with energy and happiness as the entire kehila came together for the Purim Seudah. The uplifting event featured warm Divrei Torah from the ...

Baltimore, MD - March 20, 2025 - President Donald Trump will sign an executive order Thursday that calls for eliminating the Department of Education, according to multiple sources, including the Associated Press. The order, scheduled to be signed at 3:30 p.m. followed by a public event, fulfills a campaign promise to eliminate an agency that Trump has decried as wasteful.
However, dismantling the department will likely be impossible without an act of Congress, which created the department in 1979.
According to a White House fact sheet obtained by the Associated Press, the order will direct Education Secretary Lind McMahon “to take all necessary steps to facilitate the closure (of) the Department of Education and return education authority to the States, while continuing...
When I was learning in Lakewood, Rav Matisyahu Salomon used to remind us regularly, “As you rush to seder every day, keep in mind the ultimate purpose of your Torah learning. You are coming to the beis medrash to spend four hours immersed in learning, in order to create the ultimate kiddush Hashem. If you spend the five-minute drive to the yeshivah acting in a way that is not befitting a ben Torah — if you honk your horn rudely, cut off other drivers, tailgate, and act in other disrespectful or impolite ways — you will be doing the exact opposite of kiddush Hashem. Those five minutes could hurt the effect of the next four hours of learning!”
Rav Matisyahu adds that this is also how we can understand the concept of derech eretz kadmah l’Torah . How is it possi...
