Jerusalem, Israel - Feb. 23, 2023 - The Embassy of the Republic of Kosovo located in Jerusalem, Israel celebrated fifteen years of the independence of Kosovo on Tuesday evening, February 21, 2023, at the Leonardo Plaza Hotel.
Invited guests included Israeli officials and international Ambassadors posted in Israel. Stephanie L. Hallet, Deputy Chief of Mission represented the United States.
After more than 10 years of covert relations, the State of Israel and the Republic of Kosovo agreed to establish formal diplomatic relations on September 4, 2020. Former Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi said he was looking forward to the next celebration with Kosovo to be held in Israel.
It turned out to be a historic virtual ceremony, the first of its kind. The Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabi Ashkenazi and Kosovo Minister of Foreign Affairs Meliza Haradinaj signed an agreement establishing diplomatic relations between Israel and Kosovo at the beginning of February 2021 during the pandemic.
On March 14, 2021, the Republic of Kosovo opened its embassy in Jerusalem, one year after the establishment of official relations. Ines Demiri was appointed as the chargé d’affaires of Kosovo, in Jerusalem, and continues to act in the ambassadorial position.
After the playing of national anthems, Demiri greeted her guests and spoke of the ambition for more mutual interests including tourism to Kosovo.
Jerusalem Deputy Mayor Fleur Hassan Nahoum noted how Demiri attends an extensive number of events to represent Kosovo and further good relationships in Israel.
The featured musician was Artemida Qarri-Haxhiaj, a doctorial student of piano in Skopje who studied in Italy and has performed with the Kosovo Philharmonic. She played a number of traditional Kosovo pieces and ended her performance with Hava Nagila.
