Jerusalem, Israel - Dec. 23, 2022 -Last night, the fifth night of Chanukah, was a truly heartwarming and memorable evening. I had the honor of meeting a special 98-year-old man, Mr. Avraham Gross. He is a Holocaust survivor who was in Auschwitz and a number of other concentration camps. I met him at the Kibbutz Lavi Hotel where he was celebrating Chanukah with his family.

Mr. Gross showed us his arm where you could still see the numbers imprinted from Auschwitz. Yisrael Mordechai and Miriam Leah Schwartz (of Baltimore) and their family were also present and along with many guests, we were all able to light the menorah together and enjoy a beautiful Chanukah kumzitz. Mr. Gross sang songs of yesteryear beautifully. Mr. Gross had been a chazzan and his voice, even at 98 years old, was powerful and moved us all.

I had the zechus of taking him back to Jerusalem this morning so he could visit other members of his family for Shabbos Chanukah. Mr. Gross is a true testament of the long-lasting Jewish miracles Hashem continues to grant us. May the warmth of this story over Chanukah keep you a little bit warmer as you brave the crazy temperatures in Baltimore this weekend.

Good Shabbos, Happy Chanukah to All, and Stay Safe!
