Baltimore, MD - Dec. 11, 2022 - Twelve-hundred attendees joined in paying tribute to an outstanding chazzan and an even more outstanding mensch, Cantor Avi Albrecht, as he will be retiring from Beth Tfiloh at the end of this year. Community leaders, rabbis and local, state and federal elected officials gathered together for an evening of tribute and song. Wanting to connect his farewell event to a mitzvah, Cantor Albrecht arranged for all proceeds to benefit Laniado Hospital’s new ICU.
Mr. Bill Fox, the MC, welcomed everyone before introducing Mr. Meir Mark, Laniado Hospital's Executive VP from Israel, and Rabbi Chanan Daniel Skurnik, Laniado's Mid-Atlantic Director, to address the gathering. Following an informative and touching address and video about Laniado, the Cantor Albrecht tribute took place. Beth Tfiloh's lay and professional leaders shared warm thoughts and memories about Cantor Albrecht via a heartfelt video presentation. Cantor Albrecht himself thanked and praised his colleagues, shul members and community for an incredible 27 years. Following the video, Rabbis Chai Poser and Mitchell Wohlberg presented Cantor Albrecht with a donation for Laniado, a special Kiddush cup from Jerusalem fashioned according to the Rashash, and a Cantor Emeritus achievement award.
Cantor Albrecht then took the mic and, quoting Pirkei Avot, announced: "Say little, do a lot! In our case- on with the concert!" On that note, Cantori, the new trio of Cantor Albrecht, Yoni Rose and Benny Warschawski took the stage. The trio dazzled the audience with their beautiful melodies and creative showmanship and storyline. A blend of classic songs were sung with a twist in the rhythms, musical accompaniment, and vocals. Those in attendance laughed, cheered and were moved by the various songs.
Following the finale and standing ovation, an elegant gala dessert reception with an exquisite assortment of hot and cold dishes, pastries, exotic fruit and chocolate fountains were enjoyed by all.
Cantor Albrecht has spent 27 years dedicated to Beth Tfiloh and his legacy and impact will be felt for many more years to come.
