It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rav Yaish Cohen zt”l, the zekan ha’ir of the city of Beit Shean and the Yemeni community. He was 108 years old.

Rav Cohen was a chazzan in the local shul and a rebbi of generations of children. He was a humble man who used to give advice and brachos to many ever since he arrived as one of the first immigrants to Beit Shean.

He raised his family in Beit Shean and was one of the city’s builders and founders.

Although he lost his eyesight in the last years of his life, he continued to teach Torah.

Beit Shean Mayor Zaki Levy eulogized him, saying: “His faith was so great and simple that even after the death of his son, Dr. Azriel Cohen, one of Beit Shean’s first doctors, in a car accident, he said, ‘Hashem nosan, Hashem lokach, yehi Sheim Hashem Mevorach – Hashem gave, Hashem took away, blessed be the name of Hashem.’”

The levayah took place on Friday and he was buried in Beit Shean.

Yehi zichro boruch.
