Jerusalem, Israel - May 5, 2022 - One of the Israeli Independence Day popular events is the Tanach Chidon which is broadcast live on Israeli TV.

Today, Israel’s 74th Independence Day, President Isaac Herzog and First Lady Michal Herzog participated in the International Youth Bible Contest held each year at the Jerusalem Theater.

During the quiz, President Herzog posed the President’s Question and mentioned that his late mother, Aura, a'h, was the driving force behind the contest’s establishment.

President Isaac Herzog began his remarks by saying: “I am glad to be here. Good luck to all of you, to all who love the Chumash, and to our guests in the Diaspora. It is a privilege that my late mother, Aura, who passed away a few months ago, was the founder of the Bible Contest. She always told me that she wanted it to be written on her headstone that she was the founder of the Bible Contest.”

The President’s first question was: “In one book of the Bible, we find the expression: ‘so that succeeding generations of Israelites might be made to know’. Which?” The President also asked the participants: “In one book from the  Writings do we find the expression ‘in every generation." Which?”

Also, the Prime Minister and Jerusalem Mayor are present and honored to ask a question, and PM Naftali Bennett spoke at the end of the program on the importance of the study of Chumash.

The contestants answer written questions and are also asked oral ones on stage. Of thousands of the international and Israeli participants, 16 finalists are seated on stage at the beginning of the live broadcast. Between sections for calculations, short videos were shown, one on the Lubavitcher Rebbe, another on Ukraine, and one with a Druze religious leader.

Down to eight, and then only the four finalists are seated on the stage across from the panel of judges.

Yitzhak Spivak from New York placed first as the International Winner. The two finalists from Israel were tied and again answered correctly the additional and last 20 points. Both were declared this year's first-place winners - Hillel Cohen and Dvir Mirzbach.

In the audience are the families and friends of the contestants, groups with signs and flags cheering on their favorites. However, all the contestants were treated well and applauded for correct and even incorrect answers.

Sitting near the Prime Minister, President, and Jerusalem Mayor and their wives were Rabbi Eliyahu and Dr. Rita Shloush and members of the Shloush family.
