The Michael Levin Base, located near the Machane Yehudah Market in Jerusalem, Israel, opened in February 2020, with a mission to support IDF lone soldiers and Sherut Leumi volunteers. Thousands of young people arrive from around the world to serve in Israel without family support.

Throughout the difficult year with corona restrictions and regulations, The Base, as it is called, offered a variety of programs and services, and provided meals for Shabbat and Yom Tov, even a supply room to easily obtain basic necessities, like shampoo. Support services include programs for the parents of lone soldiers and lone b'not sherut.

On Thursday evening, July 8, 2021, The Base, hosted a special evening event. For the Aloha-themed program before the Nine Days, The Base was decorated and tables filled with food and desserts.

Last year, with the coronavirus restrictions and closures, Harriet and Mark Levin, Michael's parents were prevented from coming to Israel. On Thursday evening, they were able for the first time to visit The Base and speak with young people who benefit from the home away from home.

Michael Levin, z"l, was a lone soldier from Pennsylvania who fell on August 1, 2006, during the Second Lebanon War.  A movie has been made of Mikey's story and his grave in Har Herzl Military Cemetery is piled high with mementos left from the thousands who have come to the gravesite.

On Friday, July 16th, for the 15th yahrtzeit, a service is to be held at 10:00 am at his kever, Daled 6, in Har Herzl.

The Michael Levin Base is supported by the US-based Michael Levine Lone Soldier Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization, and international donors.
