Jerusalem, Israel - Mar. 23, 2021 - President Reuven Rivlin voted, Tuesday, March 23 / 10 Nissan, for the 24th Knesset at the polling place at Yefe Nof school in Jerusalem, Israel. It was Rivlin's last time voting as the Israeli President, as his term is up in July.

Immediately after casting his ballot, the president called on all Israeli citizens to go and vote, saying, “This time, too, I ask you to go and vote. I am voting today for the last time as president, but above all, I do so as a concerned citizen. Very concerned.”

The president added, “With all the difficulties of the current situation, elections to the Knesset are the pinnacle of our democracy. Four elections in two years erode public trust in the democratic process, but only you can influence. There is no other way.”

Voting in this election was different than in the past as the Central Elections Committee placed new measures to ensure safety from the Coronavirus. The distancing and limited access caused lines to form at some polling stations. There were generous amounts of hand cleaners along with the usual political posters, banners, and youthful campaign workers. At one polling place with many stairs, chairs were placed so people could sit while waiting in line to vote.

Tuesday afternoon, a sandstorm blanketed Jerusalem under a hazy white sky. President Rivlin visited The Knesset after he voted to see the elaborate setup of the Central Election Committee. Tents were installed outside the Knesset and inside partitions for counting votes under the threat of new corona variants.

A large turnout could mean trouble for the smaller parties needing 3.25% of votes to pass the election threshold. It will be several days until the results are known. No political party has achieved a majority, past Israeli governments have been formed by a coalition of parties.

On this 4th election day in two years, neighbors who had not seen each other in a year, stopped on the street to chat. Hopes are this is the end of corona and the beginning of the formation of a stable Israeli government.
