Israel's Health Ministry's latest report on Sunday showed 2,596 new cases of COVID-19  were recorded over the 24 hours. 

Israeli health services said that 26,817 coronavirus tests were carried out, resulting in a 10 percent infection rate. 

Testing is typically much lower over the weekend compared to a regular working week when an average of 50,000 to 60,000 daily tests is conducted.  

Among the 72,026 active cases confirmed in Israel, 1,162 patients are considered in serious condition. 

To date, 4,745 Israelis have died from the disease.

Over the weekend, Health Ministry Director-General Chezy Levy said that the country's lockdown strategy aimed at driving down new coronavirus infections was having an impact, albeit at a "slow and disappointing rate.”
