Defense Minister and Alternate Prime Minister Benny Gantz told fellow Blue and White lawmakers Asaf Zamir and Miki Haimovich that they would not run on the party ticket in upcoming elections on March 23, following meetings held with them on Sunday.

Blue and White parliamentarians Zamir, Haimovich and Ran Shefa voted against Gantz’s wishes on a bill to extend negotiations on the state budget, which would have given Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Gantz until the end of the year to strike an agreement.

The 47-49 vote dissolved the coalition between the Likud and Blue and White and toppled the Knesset, Israel’s parliament, however, sending the country to elections.
