Beginning at 5 PM Sunday December 27th, Israel will once again enter a lockdown. This period will continue for at least the next two weeks.

Mrs. Malky Weinman of Chaim V’Chessed’s Bureaucratic Department has clarified the regulations for the lockdown, read on:

  1. Leaving one’s premises:
  • Generally, one may not travel more than 1000 meters from home.
  • One is permitted to travel further than 1000 meters from one’s house for the following purposes:
    • Going to permitted places of employment or education
    • Purchasing food, medicine and other vital items and services
    • Receiving medical or psychological care, including being vaccinated
    • Taking part in a wedding, bris or ח”ו a funeral
    • Attending a women’s mikveh
    • Bringing a child to his educational facility, in permitted circumstances
    • Transferring a minor between parents who are separated/divorced
    • Performing individual exercise/sports (without use of car)
    • Taking part in a demonstration or legal proceeding
    • Driving to the airport up to 8 hours before one’s flight

2. One is NOT permitted to stay in the house of another person.

3. Business and pleasure:

  • The following will remain closed:  All stores, businesses that receive the public, restaurants, pools, gyms, hair salons and hotels
  • Stores that sell the following may be open: Food, glasses and optical supplies, medication and personal hygiene, dry cleaning, hardware, communication items and computers
  • Privately run offices who do not receive the public may not allow more than 50% of their workforce to be present or 10 workers total, whichever is higher.  They must comply with the general Corona distancing guidelines.

4. Public Transportation

  • Busses will run on 50% of their capacity.

5.  Education

  • There are different requirements for the various grades, which are constantly changing.  It is recommended to check with your child’s school for an update.
  • Schools for special education and youths-at-risk and dormitories may remain open.
  • Even open air classes are prohibited
  • All school trips are cancelled.

6.  Davening in Shuls

  • Up to 10 people may gather inside a shul or 20 people may pray together in an open area
