Passengers furious at last-minute decree as decision was made less than an hour prior to landing

The Israeli government decided on Sunday to transfer dozens of Israeli nationals landing at Ben Gurion Airport, after returning from Britain, to the so-called “coronavirus hotels” -- without the passengers knowing about it in advance.

The decision was made less than an hour prior to their landing, as members of the Coronavirus Cabinet decided to bar entry from Denmark, South Africa, and the UK after a new variant of the coronavirus was discovered in southeast England.

The call to compel the passengers into quarantine for 10 to 14 days was made unanimously, according to outlet N12.

However, N12 reported, after being told to board buses that would drive them to the hotels, some 30 passengers refused and will fly back to London later tonight.

Hebrew media outlets documented the returnees’ fury with the late decision.
