Aide to PA President Abbas said to claim only Muslims have any rights for Hebron holy site

A senior official with the Palestinian Authority (PA) branded Hanukkah celebrations at the Cave of Patriarchs a "war crime," the Palestinian Media Watch NGO reported Monday.

The harsh message reportedly came from Mahmoud Al-Habbash, the top PA Islamic law judge and a religious affairs aide to PA President Mahmoud Abbas.

The official's fury was reportedly prompted by a Hanukkiah -- a special nine-branched candelabrum where a candle is lit on each day of Hanukkah -- placed on the roof of the holy site.

The judge declared that the move was nothing short of sacrilege, a "desecration" of the holy site. Read more at i24
