The Trump administration agreed to recognize Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara as past of the deal


Islamist political groups in Morocco said on Sunday that they strongly reject Rabat's decision to normalize ties with Israel, according to the Reuters news agency.

Calling the move "deplorable," the religious branch of the co-ruling PJD party, the Unity and Reform Movement (MUR), said in a statement that it denounces “all attempts at normalization and the Zionist infiltration.”

Moroccan Prime Minister Saad-Eddine El Othmani, who is also the head of the Justice and Development Party, said on Saturday that establishing official relations with Israel would not change Rabat's strong support for an independent Palestinian state. 

He also noted Morocco's King, Mohammed VI, clarified his position on the issue during a conversation with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. 

The MUR said, however, that it welcomes the US decision to recognize Morocco's sovereignty over Western Sahara.
