DUBAI (VINnews) — Due to coronavirus restrictions in the US, Israel and the UK, weddings cannot a present be made with more than a few guests as gatherings are prohibited. For this reason, some families are looking eastwards to Dubai as a possible location for larger weddings.

A member of the Jerusalem-based Midrash Shmuel yeshiva staff married off his daughter to a yeshiva student from London. Since both countries have restrictions, about 100 guests were flown into Dubai, where the wedding, possibly the first Chareidi wedding to take place in the Emirates, was conducted. Breslav mashpia Rabbi Motta Frank, who is visiting Dubai, officiated at the wedding and told the groom that just as Yaakov Avinu travelled to Kedem, eastwards, in order to find his bride, the groom had followed in his footsteps, marrying his wife in Dubai.

Rabbi Frank also referred to the “new reality” in which Jewish people from Israel are received warmly and the government is favorable towards them and expressed his hope that the same thing would happen in other Arab countries.
