President of Israel Reuven (Ruvi) Rivlin this evening, Tuesday 3 October / 16 Cheshvan, held a diplomatic working meeting with Prime Minister Ludovic Orban of Romania.

The president welcomed the prime minister and the ministerial delegation accompanying him to Jerusalem, noting the fact that the Romanian president, prime minister and minister of defense had all visited Israel in less than a year was a sign of the close relations between the countries.

The president thanked the prime minister for his personal friendship and Romania’s strong stance against antisemitism, both at home and across Europe. He also noted that the strong ties between the countries still left room for further strengthening, particularly in the fields of economy and security.

“Israel is one of our best friends in this region and we hope to deepen the relations and the dialog between us. Our mission here is to find new projects in a wide range of fields where we can work together,” said the prime minister, thanking the president for his warm welcome and inviting him to visit Romania.

The president expressed his thanks for the invitation and said he would be happy to do so as soon as the circumstances allow. The president also wished the people of Romania good health and added his hopes and prayers for them in light of the global coronavirus pandemic.

The president and the prime minister then viewed an exhibition of the State of Israel’s capabilities in the field of space, which is on display at Beit HaNasi. The viewing was led by Minister of Science and Technology Yizhar Shai and the head of the Israel Space Agency Avi Blasberger. The exhibition shows recent Israeli developments in the field, including the Beresheet spacecraft, the first Israeli satellite, mini-satellite BGUSAT, the environmental research satellite Venus and other advanced technologies.
