At least six buildings were destroyed in the Turkish city of Izmir, which is located on the shore of the Aegean sea, local officials said, as cited by Anadolu.
People were feared trapped beneath the debris of five of those, local reports suggested, while other accounts put the number of affected structures at 20.
According to Turkey's health minister, the earthquake left at least four people dead and some 120 more injured.
"Unfortunately, four of our citizens lost their lives in the earthquake" that destroyed buildings in Turkey's coastal resort city of Izmir, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca tweeted.
The earthquake, its magnitude estimated at 6.9 by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, was also felt in Istanbul and on the Greek islands in the area, as well as the Greek capital of Athens. Read more at i24
