Despite being technically at war with Israel, the 'historic' talks offer Lebanon a economic life-line
Lebanon and Israel, still technically at war, started unprecedented talks sponsored by the United Nations and the United States on Wednesday to settle a maritime border dispute, a UN source told AFP.
“Yes, they have started,” the source said at around 10:30 am (0730 GMT) without disclosing additional details.
The talks, held at a UN peacekeeping force base in the Lebanese border town of Naqura, are a rare official interaction between Lebanon and Israel, which have no diplomatic relations.

Just hours ahead of the landmark meeting, Shi'ite terrorist organization Hezbollah slammed the Lebanese government for sending a delegation of technocrats to hammer out a deal, demanding that Beirut recall its negotiating team and include only military officials without civilians or politicians.
Hailed as a "historic" breakthrough by US officials following three years of negotiations, the talks aim to resolve a dispute between the countries over potentially resource-rich Mediterranean waters. Read more at i24
