Israel's capital records 88.7°F at night as country faces extreme heatwave

Israel’s extreme heatwave is expected to intensify Friday, after hitting record temperatures in multiple locations across the country on Thursday night.

The capital city of Jerusalem broke the last record of June 1942, with a record-high 88.7°F.

Last night's record fell short only to the hottest day ever on record, back in August, 1881 -- 139 years ago.

The predicted temperatures for today are 104°F in Jerusalem, 109.4°F in Beersheba, 116.6°F in Eilat, 100.4°F in Safed, 93.2°F in Haifa and in Tel Aviv.

The temperatures are slated to allay a little on Saturday, but the heatwave will continue with temperatures higher on average for the season. A more significant cooling is expected to commence on Tuesday. Read more at i24
