Israel registered 3,150 new COVID-19 coronavirus cases on Wednesday, the Health Ministry reported Thursday morning, -- a record spike in new daily cases.

The increase comes on the back of 32,962 tests performed over the past 24 hours, with 9.6 percent returning positive -- the highest ratio in weeks.

The death toll in the country rose to 976.
