Baltimore Jewish Community Weekly Covid-19 Updates, as well as other COVID-19 information pertinent to our community can be seen here.
Baltimore, MD - Aug. 11, 2020 - Current Infection Status: Over the last week, we have seen an increased number of cases of COVID in our community. Many of these have occurred after travel to other states, including New York and New Jersey, and particularly after participation in weddings and other large gatherings. Baltimore City and County continue to see a slightly higher percent of tests returning positive than before. Baltimore County continues to see a small upward trend in hospitalizations.
Bottom line: Travel-related COVID infection is becoming a greater risk. This includes the New York/New Jersey area. Large gatherings carry a larger risk of exposure to someone with the infection. We need to remain vigilant in practicing physical distancing, hand hygiene, and masking, especially when traveling to other states, and especially when attending large events. If there has been a possibility of exposure, it is important to consult a medical professional to discuss whether there is a need to quarantine.
Local Updates: Due to the level of infection in Baltimore City, the local government announced last week that religious establishments should limit occupancy to no more than 25% of the allowed capacity. We want to acknowledge Councilman Yitzy Schleifer, Delegate Dalya Attar, and Rabbi Ariel Sadwin for working with our local governments to ensure that our shuls are able to continue to operate in the safe manner which they have done until now.
The state of Maryland posted a travel advisory recommending that all travelers in to Maryland (whether visiting or returning) get tested for COVID in the 72 hours prior to returning, or immediately upon returning. Those traveling from high-incidence states should quarantine until the results of their tests are available. As above, this should be viewed as an absolute minimum.
