President Rivlin on the coronavirus crisis:
“The State of Israel must bring all those working to fight the disease under one roof and one authority. To improve the flow of information. To aim for full coordination. Together, we will create a mighty fist against this disease and beat it.”
President Rivlin to the three women graduates:
In these days, when women are still fighting for the opportunity to serve in every part of the IDF, your achievement is particularly enjoyable. You, who have worked so hard, overcome all obstacles and got here, are the best of the best. I know that here in the stands, or at homes across Israel, girls are watching you now and thanks to you, they will dare to have great dreams. And because of dreams like these, and because of your ability, we will have an army which is stronger, smarter and more diverse.”
President Reuven (Ruvi) Rivlin presented pilots’ wings this evening, Thursday 25 June / 3 Tevet, to Lieut. T, a helicopter pilot and the outstanding graduate of the IAF’s 180th pilots’ course. Earlier, the president delivered remarks at the graduation ceremony, attended by Alternate Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Benny Gantz, IDF Chief of Staff Lieut.-Gen. Aviv Kochavi and IAF Commander Maj.-Gen. Amikam Norkin.
“On the parade ground, there are standing a few dozen outstanding people, the best of Israel’s men and women. You have surmounted all obstacles, touched the blue beyond and proved that for you the sky is no limit. You have waited for this moment. Mazal Tov!” said the president at the beginning of his remarks to the graduates.
Speaking about the coronavirus pandemic, the president said, “These are not normal days. I am sure you imagined louder cheers coming from the stands. You certainly deserve them. But the fight against corona requires us to do everything in order to prevent the spread of the disease and to fight it with everything at our disposal. Our best brains are working on research, our finest doctors are fighting for every patient, and our security forces are joining together to help all those in need, to extend tracing, to give forecasts. This is the place to emphasize again – we are stronger together! The State of Israel must bring all those working to fight the disease under one roof and one authority. To improve the flow of information. To aim for full coordination. Together, we will create a mighty fist against this disease and beat it. At this time, the stability of our system is more important than ever. Those who are leading the fight against corona on all fronts are important to us. Your abilities are important to us. A range of voices is important to us. This is the only we that we can beat the virus, this is the only way we can win.”
“And we have women graduates!” said the president. “Commanders, you join a line that is growing of smart and powerful women. Of talented women who have taken wing.
At the end of his remarks, the president remembered the fallen of the IAF and the unending commitment of the State of Israel to bring back those missing in action or taken captive, including IAF navigator Ron Arad, saying “Dear cadets, remember that this finish line is only the starting line. Spread your wings, fly high and come back home safely. Good luck!”
