Jerusalem, Israel - June 25, 2020 - President Rivlin this morning reacted to the petirah of Yehuda Wachsman: "I heard the sad news of the passing of Yehuda Wachsman. I remember Yehuda's worry-stricken face well on our televisions during those tense days when the Nachshon's fate hung in the balance. We also remember how we were all united in anxiety over what would happen.
This was the face of a man of faith, a man of peace, but above all, a father whose life was turned upside down.
'Sayeret Matkal didn't think twice before sending a unit to rescue Nachshon ז"ל', said Yehuda ז"ל once. The soldiers and officers went to rescue their brother without asking what his background was, whether he was religious or secular, ״החיילים ומפקדיהם יצאו להציל Ashkenazi or Sephardi, right or leftm. They were ready to die to save an Israeli soldier, no matter where he was born, י. הם היו grew up and was educated.'
We remember the heroism of the soldiers and officers of the unit sent to rescue Nachshon ז"ל and will never forget the heroism of Captain Nir Poraz ז"ל, salt of the earth, who fell in that daring mission. Let Yehuda's words be his will and testament to us with his passing. To rise above the disagreements and to return to the values of mutual responsibility that are the basis of our existence as a people. May his memory be a blessing."
