Jerusalem, Israel - June 3, 2020 - After over a year of work, the "Silicon Wadi" project is underway, announced Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion stating " We are bringing tremendous news to the economy of the State of Israel and for Jerusalem."

The project, part of the largest and most significant strategic plan for the city of Jerusalem, will expand employment, trade, and hotel areas on an extensive scale in the east of the city. Emphasis is to be on quality employment in high-tech, alongside retail space, and hotel development in the area of Wasi Joz, near Jerusalem's Old City.

Deputy Mayor Fleur Hassan-Nahoum said on a media phone conference call that plans are being to fast-track the project and the first building should be up in two years. Government Decision #3790 allocated 2 billion shekels to close the gaps in the Arab sector in Jerusalem, in infrastructure, education, and quality employment. Especially Arab women in Jerusalem who do not learn Hebrew and marry young have little earning potential. The project is to provide significant training and income to thousands of families.

With years of gaps to close, the Silicon Wadi project is but one step to develop the area to be the "innovation center of the Middle East." . The projection is ten thousand jobs will be created. Infrastructure improvements on sewage, and sidewalks and roads, as well as the buildings, are planned.  Current shop owners in the area will be compensated.

A short video was produced to show the vision for Silicon Wadi.
