Erev Shabbos, Parshas Ki Sisa

Dear Beloved Community Members,

We find ourselves in the midst of difficult times.  A virus had gripped our world and changed the way we look at so many things.  It is important that during times of uncertainty we remain calm, take necessary precautions and strengthen our emunah in the Ribbono Shel Olam.  During these challenging times different Kehillos will be implementing different practices.  Some will close and some will remain open.  Some will host shiurim and others will take their learning online.  It is important for you, the community to know that the Rabbonim are working on this issue, are concerned and are looking for ways to maintain the physical and spiritual safety of our greater community.  There are differences of opinion amongst doctors and there are differences of opinion amongst Rabbonim.  It is important during these times we maintain a sense of unity and mutual respect even if we disagree.  It is important for the members of our community to feel safe in their Shuls and to have confidence in their Rabbonim.  If you have a question or don’t understand your Rov’s approach to this issue – I urge you to ask.  We must all take necessary steps as outlined by the Vaad HaRabbonim, the CDC and Governor Hogan.  We will have to make difficult decisions in the days ahead regarding weddings and simchas; we will IYH keep you informed.

On this erev Shabbos, I conclude with a beautiful thought I heard today; as we take the time to so carefully wash our hands, let us remember Whose hands we are in.  This is a time to put in proper hishtadlus while at the same time using all of the spiritual means at our disposal to help change the course of events.

I take this opportunity to wish our greater Baltimore Kehilla, ah gut Shabbos.  Let it be the will of the Shomer Yisroel to protect our community and may we weather this storm becoming greater and better people.  Let us hope that it will be a Shabbos filled with refuah, yeshuah and kedusha.

B’virchas kol tuv u’bleyv maley ahava,

Yaakov Hopfer
