Netanyahu later relaid the remark to Israeli media as evidence of his close relationship with Putin, telling the media he also requested that Putin pardon imprisoned American-Israeli Naama Issachar.

“Putin said to me that had we not enjoyed a close relationship, our countries could have found ourselves at war with one another… Yet as we convene every few months this scenario has been avoided,” Netanyahu said.
