It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rav Chaim Zev Malinowitz zt”l of Yerushalayim. He was 67 years old.

Rav Malinowitz was a brilliant talmid chochom and posek, whose wealth of knowledge and wide-ranging yedios haTorah were awe-inspiring. He was a devoted rov and a Torah guide to so many.

Rav Malinowitz received semicha from the posek hador, Rav Moshe Feinstein zt”l. He served as a dayan and rosh kollel in Monsey, NY for years before moving to Eretz Yisroel in 1997.

In 2002, Rav Malinowitz was appointed as rov of Beis Tefillah Yonah Avraham, a shul founded two years prior to meet the needs of new olim looking for a community with which to provide support and a sense of belonging. Rav Malinowitz proved to be the perfect mara d’asra, combining Torah scholarship with compassion, daas Torah, and hadracha for his mispallelim.

Rav Malinowitz famously served as General Editor of the Artscroll Schottenstein Edition of the Talmud. His gaonus and depth of understanding of all of Shasmeforshim and poskim are reflected in his editorial leadership of the unparalleled Schottenstein Gemara, the transformative work utilized by hundreds of thousands across the globe.

Rav Malinowitz was suddenly and unexpectedly niftar this afternoon, plunging his many admirers into mourning.

Levayah details will be posted as soon as Matzav.com receives them. The kevurah will take place in Rechovot.

Yehi zichro boruch.
