Baltimore, MD - May 2, 2019 - Today is Yom HaShoah, one of the days we pause to remember the 6,000,000 Kedoshim brutally murdered during the Holocaust.

In the Warsaw Ghetto, Rav Kalonymus Kalman Shapira, the Rebbe of Piaseczna, lost his entire family. Through unimaginable suffering and humiliation at the hands of the Nazis, he sought to uplift his Chassidim, the congregation of the broken hearted, through words of Torah and inspiration. Isru Chag of Pesach 1940, the Rebbe said, "Today, we don't have a prophet, someone to tell us when Geulah will come. So we must create our own redemption through mitzvos and learning. Because when you engage in Torah, when you engage in spirituality, you have the ability to create new reality."

The Rebbe’s words inspire us to this day. We must create our redemptive moments even in the midst of sadness and pain. We cannot wait for the era of redemption - we must become the agents of salvation and redemption.

Next week, we commemorate Yom HaZikaron, remembering those who have given their lives establishing and defending the State of Israel.

If we internalize the lesson of the Rebbe and commit ourselves to learning, we provide an aliyah to the precious and holy neshamos of the 6,000,000 and the fallen soldiers of our Holy Land. Learning Mishnayos is one small redemptive act we can do in their memory.

Project ''Ratzim B'Yachad", started by Rav Yosef Zvi Rimon, is a beautiful way to learn Mishnayos for their aliyah. After selecting a Mishna, you will be given the name of a fallen soldier. Make this a learning project with your children, a chavrusah or on your own.

The learning begins today, Yom HaShoah, and concludes on Yom Hazikaron (May 8th).
