Lakewood, NJ - Another student is facing weapons charges after a loaded gun was brought into to a New Jersey elementary school.

Authorities had reported Tuesday that a .22-caliber handgun was found in the backpack of a 9-year-old student at the Oak Street school in Lakewood.

But police now say the fourth-grade student brought the gun onto a school bus and transferred it to the backpack of a 10-year-old boy during the ride to school.

Another student told school security that the 9-year-old had the gun. But it eventually was found in the older boy’s backpack.

Authorities have not said how the younger student obtained the gun or why it was brought to school. The names of the two students have not been released.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
