Jerusalem, Israel - May 13, 2018 -  Yom Yerushalayim 5778 began with official ceremonies at Har Herzl, to honor memory of Ethiopians who died on their journey to Yerushalayim and for soldiers who fell in battles to defend Yerushalayim.

Prime Minister Benyamin Netanuahu mentioned in an official statement at his morning cabinet meeting, held at the Bible Lands Museum, Yerushalayim is mentioned 650 times in the Tanach.

The weather was inconsistent, with rain on and off much of the day. However, grey clouds and light rain did not dampen the enthusiasm of the tens of thousands of visitors to Yerushalayim.

Mayor Nir Barkat held a press conference on top of the Tower of David.

Hundreds of visitors walked up and down the ancient stone stairs, taking advantage of free admittance and musical entertainment. Actors were dressed as historical figures, King David with his harp, Ben Gurion and Chaim Weizmann, and Golda Meir entertained young and not so young visitors.  Annually the mayor and his wife Beverly Barkat greet the public at the Tower of David in the afternoon.
