Jerusalem, Israel  - Apr. 9, 2018 - This year the annual Yom Ha'atzmaut, Israel Independence Day celebrations will start with lighting a torch on Har Herzl in Jerusalem, Israel, at sunset on ד אייר - Wednesday night, instead of Thursday night, so celebrations should not interfere with Shabbos.

The ceremony is under the Ministry of Culture and Sport headed by MK Miri Regev. The Speaker of the Knesset, Yuli Edelstein is the host of the program which is broadcast live on Israeli television.

Israel 70 year celebrations are being planned as larger than usual events. On Monday afternoon, Regev invited the media to a press conference and tour of the Har Herzl auditorium site. Honor guards rehearsed as she met with police and army leadership to discuss security and planning.

The elaborate stage is constructed around the black stone marker over Herzl's grave, going up several stories high. Audience seating is on both sides of the stage, with a dignitary seating section across from the stage.

Workman and soldiers stopped to take selfies with Regev. Cameras and microphones followed her around the site. Following the tour, Regev presented her remarks under banner of Israel 70 years of Innovation.
