The Jewish state has seen 6,261 fatalities since the start of the pandemic last March

A top Health Ministry official warned on Wednesday that Israel is still "in the middle of the battle" against the coronavirus pandemic as she urged members of the public to remain vigilant despite the country's successful vaccination campaign. 

Speaking to the Ynet site, Israel's top public health expert Sharon Alroy-Preis argued that "many external threats" still remain that could develop and destroy the progress Israel has made over the last several months.

Health experts across the globe continue to fear the breakout of a COVID-19 variant resistant to the current vaccines on the market, further eroding fragile economies and forcing people back into their homes.
