Baltimore, MD - July 17, 2018:

Parshas Pinchas - Pinchas and the Broken Luchos- The Three Weeks Part 1: Hashem knew that in order for the Jewish people to survive, the breaking of the luchos was critical. The story of the three weeks is Hashem distancing from us so that we would have a future. He takes out His wrath on "sticks and stones" because He wants us to go forward with an alternative approach of His love for us.

Part II: Parshas Matos-Masei - The Three Weeks Part II - Hashem instructs Moshe to tell the Jewish people to go and take their revenge on the Midianites for what they did to the Jewish people. When Moshe instructs the Jewish people, he tells them to take the revenge of Hashem. An affront to the Jewish people is an affront to Hashem, and we must look at what has happened to us throughout history in that way. During the three weeks, we need to focus on bringing the name of Hashem back to be associated with the Jewish people, so that His name and glory can be clearly expressed in the world.

Parshas Devarim - The Three Weeks Part III : Moshe, Yeshayahu, and Yirmiyahu all prophesized with the term eicha, and all three are read around this time of year. Moshe said that he could not carry the argumentative Jewish people on his own. Yeshayahu bemoaned the sins that were rampant in Yerushalayim before it was destroyed, and Yirmiyahu mourned the complete destruction. These 3 are intertwined-if we focus on treating one another properly and work to follow the Torah together, we can come back as one people to Eretz Yisroel, with the geulah.
